PI has left, no new PI available yet.

I’m trying to find regulations about the following issue:

In the case that the PI has left the job and no new PI has been appointed yet. Who is responsible for oversight of the trial i.e is it the sponsor or the site? Can the sub-I remove PI from delegation logs?

How long does the site/sponsor have to appoint someone to take over.
