Blood transfer during the national blood shortage

To minimise blood wastage during the national blood shortage, we would like to put an agreement in place which would allow transfer of short-dated blood between our blood bank and the blood banks in neighbouring trusts.

Can this be done in compliance with BSQR regulations and if so, what would need to be included in the agreement for compliance with MHRA requirements?

    Hi

Hospital blood banks are permitted to distribute blood components but should ensure that there is a system in place to document where the blood was delivered. There should be a written agreement in place covering responsibility for reporting SAE and SARs. There should also be verification that the blood components have been transported in accordance with defined conditions as described in the BSQR.

    Kind regards

    Mike
